Brackenroad's Roots
I have always been interested in horses, and I am grateful that I have the ability to spend time with real horses. I have been riding both Western and English since 2006, the same year I got my first Breyer. As a member of 4-H, I participate in many equine-related competitions like Hippology, Horse Bowl, and Horse Judging. Thanks to those competitions I have an advantage when it comes to knowledge. My mother initially got me interested in horses when I was very young (though I'm still pretty young!) and the hobby has stuck with me.
It must have been 2006 when my mother bought me my first Breyer ever, a gray Shire Stablemate. In the beginning, he was a mare and her name was Snow. After that, I got many other Stablemates until a collection of around 15 had accumulated. After that my parents caught on and now I get Breyers every year! It wasn't until late 2009 when I got into the model horse hobby. I read about live shows in a Breyer catalog and I was very intrigued- and here I am today!
The name Brackenroad Stables has a small history as well. For those who don't know, bracken is a type of fern. Fern is undoubtedly my favorite type of plant, so I knew I wanted 'bracken' in the name. I chose the suffix 'stables' simply because I thought it fit. It could have been Brackenroad Farm, or Brackenroad Stud, but Brackenroad Stables worked the best in my mind. Lastly, the suffix 'road' was added. I added 'road' instead of anything else because when I imagined the property of the farm, I imagined a trail in the forest with bracken lining the road. Thus, Brackenroad Stables!
The official colors of the farm are brown and gold. Brown because it's one of my favorite colors, and it always brings a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere to any setting. And although my favorite colors are lime green and orange, I have always thought gold to be the richest color, a color of power and success, which is what I'm striving for with Brackenroad. The logo was designed by my best friend, Sam McKellar. It is a horse in front of a piece of bracken.
I now own almost 75 horses, many of them non-show quality. Hopefully I'll be able to breed off these foundation horses in future years. Our first foal produced by a BRD broodmare was recently born: BRD Zippin Thru Life, sired by Gubbera Park's Shelf Life. Our second foal has just hit the ground running (almost literally): BRD Black Sky, sired by Silver-Moon Studfarm's SMS Sky's On Fire.
